ESTECO is proud to participate in the 2017 edition of the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC 2017), to be held 5-8 June, 2017 in San Sebastián, Spain.
CEC 2017 is a congress organized by IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through its highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

During the event, more than 300 technical papers on the latest advances in evolutionary computation will be presented. The congress format consists in plenary talks and parallel sessions, as well as in tutorial on basic and advanced technical topics.
Mariapia Marchi of the ESTECO Numerical Methods Group will present a paper on "Multiobjective Sizing Optimization of a Steel Girder Bridge with a Simple Target-Driven Approach" during the poster session. The paper was written in collaboration with her colleagues Stefano Costanzo (Numerical Methods Group) and Luca Rizzian (Engineering Services and Support Team) and illustrates a genetic algorithm which takes into account user preferences expressed as targets in the objective space to drive the optimization towards the most preferred regions of the Pareto front. Several mathematical tests are shown as well as a structural engineering application: the sizing optimization of a steel girder bridge under permanent, variable and seismic loads.
