  • Multidisciplinary Design Optimization of Vehicle Weight Reduction

    In this study from ESTECO North America, a six-step MDO process is illustrated by solving a 2001 Taurus weight reduction problem with two formulations AAO and CO. The chosen optimization platform is modeFRONTIER plus SOMO. Conclusions show the advantages to using AAO methodology in MDO.

  • Multi-Disciplinary and Multi-Objective Optimization for the design of a Over-the-Wing-Nacelle aircraft and a High-Altitude Long-Endurance unmanned vehicle

    Two different aircraffts are optimized through an explicit Multi-Objective Optimization (MOO) approach using modeFRONTIER by applying the Multi Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA II) for evaluating the Pareto frontier. The investigation involved an Over-the-Wing-Nacelle (OWN) aicraft proposed by NASA LaRC and a High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE) unmanned vehicle.

  • Optimization of a Turbo Charger Compressor at BorgWarner using AxCent and modeFRONTIER

    This work presents a numerically optimized design approach to turbo charger radial compressor development for commercial diesel applications. The design optimization includes both aerodynamic and structural components, combined via a “loosely coupled” iterative procedure. The primary goal of the design is to maximize total to static efficiency at various operating conditions, while also preserving or expanding the overall operating range of the compressor, and doing so with a structurally sound geometry.
