Analysis Led Design at Cummins
Cummins, a global leader in the engine and power generation business, moves from test-led to analysis led design, using modeFRONTIER as its chosen optimization software. Structural and multidisciplinary optimization methods are both described in detail in this presentation, highlighting the ALD approach at Cummins.
Enhancing deterministic synthesis of antenna arrays with stochastic methods
The optimization of a CubeSat array antenna is explored in this work. The integration of CST Microwave Studio and modeFRONTIER is chosen for the proposed methodology. Specifically, the optimization of a geometrically uniform array is explored to improve efficiency.
Optimization of a small and lightweight antenna for handheld RFID reader
This presentation demonstrates the successful coupling of the two softwares modeFRONTIER and CST for the enabling of multidisciplinary optimization of a waveguide and the antenna of a RFID portable reader. Overall, in the first case, modeFRONTIER helped meet the design targets, whereas in the second case it identified the best compromise between the most important requirements.
BIM-Based Structural Optimization in Building Design Practice
There is a real need for simplification in the building industry where optimization implementation is still rare. A driver to push integration of parametric modeling and optimization into the construction industry can be identified in BIM (Building Information Modelling). A structural optimization test-case provided by Studio Iorio in Italy is used as an example.
A novel comprehensive approach for multi-objective optimization of the aluminum extrusion process
The aim of this work was to carry out a multi-objective optimization of industrial porthole dies for the maximization of the profile quality, of the production rate, and of the die strength. The investigation using optimizer modeFRONTIER involved two industrial components, a thick round tube and a more complex hollow rectangular profile.
Robust Design Optimization of a Free-Fall-Life-Boat (FFLB) Using Fluid-Structure Interaction and Kinematics Analysis
A free fall lifeboat, or FFLB, is the focus in this optimization methodology run in modeFRONTIER, coupling ANSA, Meta and the FSI solver. A Kinematic solver calculates the initial conditions of the FSI analysis for different initial positions of the vessel, provided by the DoE tool. The results lead to useful conclusions for the lifeboat's robust trajectory.
I Beam Crane - Design Optimization
As part of a design optimizing course at the Ben-Gurion University, Israel, this project aims to optimize the design of a crane built to raise and displace heavy experimental cells, used to research shock waves. The optimization process was performed in modeFRONTIER software, using genetic algorithm MOGA-II with Latin hypercube sampling.
MUSICAS is a project aimed to demonstrate that the rational integration of existing software in a business infrastructure can consider that automating processes may lead to effective methodologies. This project explores multiphysics modelling R&D of the welding process.
Identification of mechanical properties based on Nanoindentation experiment
This nanoindentation test is done as an experiment for the purpose of more efficient material design. The identification of the mechanical properties of sample materials is conducted with physical experimentation, which is then followed by simulation and optimization in modeFRONTIER. The project was done in SPACE-SI, a space research laboratory in Slovenia.
Multi-objective optimization of a V6 3.0L diesel engine for automotive applications, using GT-SUITE and modeFRONTIER
In this project, GT-SUITE and modeFRONTIER are coupled to investigate several engine design parameters on engine performance using a V6 3.0L diesel engine as an example. With eight engine configurations, time to torque is one of the objectives selected for this optimization process.
