Optimization of ceramic filters obtained by additive manufacturing
The aim of this work, carried out as a master thesis in mechanical engineering at the University of Padova (supervisor Prof. Giovanni Meneghetti), is the optimization of filters made of ceramic material through an additive manufacturing process, called direct ink writing. The filters are obtained by laying down a wire of material on the printing plane, through a nozzle. Optimization is performed to find a geometric configuration of the filter that maximizes the contact surface between filter and fluid and minimizes the pressure drop of the fluid passing through the filter. The first condition would lead to narrow channels, while the second objective requires very wide channels. Therefore a compromise is needed.
