Fluid Dynamic Design Optimization of an Innovative High Temperature Gas to Gas Heat Exchanger
CHALLENGE - Design a high temperature gas-to-gas HE based on solid particles for medium and large-scale combined power plants fed by alternative and dirty fuels such as biomass and fuel.
SOLUTION - After the pressurization system was experimentally tested with negligible energy loss, a modeFRONTIER multi-objective genetic algorithm was used to minimize HE dimensions and maintain high efficiency levels.
BENEFITS - modeFRONTIER explored various HE sizing options for different pressure ratios and inlet/outlet temperatures and successfully met the optimization goals. Additionally, Polytechnic researchers used modeFRONTIER to reduce the overall optimization time through the use of parallel computing.
