Material Modelling at Volvo Cars, Mapturing Set of Stress-strain Curves for Efficient Reuse
CHALLENGE - Capturing data on variation in material quality and the correlations in material property is key to predict material failures and allow for model reuse. Material properties of the rear components of a Volvo car are analyzed from a safety perspective, to improve the energy absorption capability of the bumper and prevent components’ replacement.
SOLUTION - The material test data were used to perform robust analysis and curve fitting was performed in modeFRONTIER in order to build and validate RSM models of material properties and predict its behavior. Variations in the properties and correlations between properties are stored within the RSM models for future use.
BENEFITS - Test data of material properties were initially used to perform robust analysis followed by a curve fitting phase aimed at building and validating RSM models of material properties and predicting their behavior. Behavior variations and correlations between properties are described by these models, stored for easy reuse.
