Multiobjective Optimization for Motor Form with JMAG-Studio
CHALLENGE - The optimization of Interior Permanent Magnetic Motor (IPM Motor) with focus on rotor weight and deviation of torque was the aim of this project conducted by CD-adapco JAPAN.
SOLUTION - Multiobjective optimization was performed using the electromagnetic field analysis software JMAG-Studio and optimization software modeFRONTIER. The chosen objectives included minimizing rotor weight, maximizing average torque and minimizing standard deviation of torque. JMAG analysis was set to use adaptive mesh, define rotor's rotation, and output of torque. The modeFRONTIER optimization method included DOE 17 designs, using FMOGA as optimization algorithm, with total number of calculations reaching 228.
BENEFITS - The collaboration between modeFRONTIER and JMAG-Studio provided a Pareto solution among three objects. Results were reached regarding maximized stable torque and minimized weight of rotor. The best size of airspace for the rotor was chosen, as well as the perfect combination of electrical steel sheet used between the rotor and stator.
