Optimising the Cost of Flooding

Alan Wisdish (Atkins UK)

CHALLENGE - The Water & Environment division of Atkins UK deals with the planning of emergency response, maintenance, and minor improvements as well as construction management for major works related to flooding. After investigation, the consultancy company simulated flooding propagation and sewer condition to assess risks and plan interventions.

SOLUTION - The ad-hoc interface for between InfoWorks CS and modeFRONTIER assisted Atkins engineers in defining the parameters and targets to verify the sewer hydraulic model and outline costs for the existing known problems and analyze the options for the interventions.

BENEFIT - modeFRONTIER supported the sewer model validation step and turned out to be a reliable optioneering tool to perform cost/benefit solutions based on the assessment of risk related to river flooding.
