ModeFrontier software was exploited in the optimization of the peripheral portion of a CSP plant based on Airlight parabolic trough collectors, which were modeled in Simscape using a custom domain for gases with temperature dependent properties. A second step involved annual simulation of the plant which included the solar power radiation variation and the thermal energy storage models. MOGA and MOPSO algorithms were employed to maximize the total revenues of the plant.
In this work the development and characterization of two inductive energy harvesters which exploit different characteristics of the human gait are presented. The first harvester exploits the swing motion of the foot to accelerate a magnet stack through a set of coils, while the second device employs frequency up-conversion to excite a spring-loaded magnetic circuit into resonance upon heel strike.
In this study, hydrodynamic solvers, along with appropriately developed ship-parametric models, are integrated within an optimization environment using modeFRONTIER illustrating the design-through-analysis capabilities of the IGA-BEM approach. As seen here, the IGA-BEM concept can contribute toward drastically improving the efficiency and accuracy of calculating ship wave loads and hull-form optimization.
The objective of this study is to build a framework for occupant restraint system optimization and to study the interaction between occupant and restraint system. A front seat passenger side restraint system model was built and parameterized, including the seat position. A genetic algorithm was used to explore potential optimal configurations for 5 dummies and 2 crash severities.
Modern design techniques such as optimization and computational fluid dynamics have been extensively used in this investigation with the goal to improve the hydrodynamic performance of a yacht that will participate in the America's cup. Here modeFRONTIER is integrated with STARCCM+ in order to perform a preliminary investigation on the development of the forms of the hull.
In this paper, refurbishment of a single residential apartment is carried out by using DesignBuilder for problem definition and initial optimization, Energy Plus for energy computation and modeFRONTIER for driving the optimization loop and performing genetic optimization. The objectives are lowering energy consumption and the life cycle refurbishment cost, using a net present value (NPV) approach.
In this study, a certain methodology has been used to conduct several analyses on the basis of the loads of a specific hospital facility and the study of the cogeneration system-user interaction. The plant configurations and management strategies analyzed in this work show substantial primary energy savings. A predictive analysis of this interaction was conducted using a simulative thermo-economic approach using modeFRONTIER.
A multi-objective, single stage optimization process was implemented in order to improve the hydrodynamic performance of a fast displacement ferry. In this performance optimization of a ship, objectives were improving its calm and rough water sailing efficiency by minimizing its resistance and improving its seakeeping qualities. Model tests and CFD calculations are used. A custom parametric design of an existing conventional hull form was developed using CAESES.
An optimization method has been designed for improving the performance of Archimedes screw axial rotary blood pumps. The advantages of the established pump design theory are combined with modern computer-aided, computational fluid dynamics (CFD)- based design optimization. modeFRONTIER and ANSYS are coupled in this optimization process.
In this paper, a framework comprised of ANSYS FEM models embedded in a modeFRONTIER optimization environment is developed in order to predict operating parameters to provide a robust Friction Stir Welding process. A coupled steady-state thermo-mechanical, transient thermal and steady state thermal models were used to represent the system which was optimized using a SOBOL DOE approach with MOGA II.
