Many challenges arise when designing autopilot algorithms for missiles. Verification and validation processes are crucial, but traditional design procedures are highly time-consuming. This presentation demonstrates an innovative way to use modeFRONTIER MORDO to design an efficient and robust autopilot.

Development of a Nanosatellite De-Orbiting System by Reliability Based Design Optimization

A 3USAT nanosatellite was used in this study to explore a beneficial orbital decay process. Objectives included maximizing the aerodynamic drag force and minimizing the de-orbiting system mass. Reliability based optimum design yields the best results as it significantly improves both system reliability and performance requirements.

Automated Deployment of System Models via Functional Mockup Interface with Excel and modeFRONTIER

This presentation provides a brief overview of FMI with a focus on end-user value and demonstrates a method for automated deployment of system models in Modelica as simulators in Microsoft Excel using Functional Mockup Interface (FMI) and FMI Add-in for Excel. Using existing interfaces, integration with modeFRONTIER is demonstrated and exercised with several different example system models in different physical domains.

Based on the objectives of the Remote Laser Welding (RLW) Navigator project, partners aim at building an innovative joining technology platform for the automotive industry by combining a universal simulation engine and the manufacturing system design information (CAD/CAM) with statistical analysis, variation simulation, optimization and control tools. 

Dynamics Optimization of Controlled Mechatronic Systems - Comparison Between Time and Frequency Domain

The experimental plant at the University of Strasbourg is used to analyze and improve mechatronic systems. In this case, a roll-to-roll system must be designed in order to satisfy the following conditions: must wind/unwind web material at high speed, ensure that the speeds and tension are monitored and must be robust regarding parameter variations. 

Optimization Applied to the Bearing Design of an Automotive Subsystem

Researchers at SKF Automotive Development Centre aimed at improving their bearing design for automotive subsystems by reducing the friction at the wheel-end by 30% while respecting the life service requirements. The results of each study listed remarkable improvements (up to 19%) and allowed researchers to consider different bearing configurations, in terms of number of rollers and size, and spot the optimal friction reduction conveying robustness improvements to the bearing.

Capturing data on variation in material quality and the correlations in material property is key to predict material failures and allow for model reuse. Material properties of the rear components of a Volvo car are analyzed from a safety perspective, to improve the energy absorption capability of the bumper and prevent components’ replacement.
