BASF Catalysts solutions meet exhaust emissions standards with modeFRONTIER

Using modeFRONTIER to optimize exhaust aftertreatment systems.

Handling the Complexity of Mechatronic System Design

Two design projects highlight how ABB Group leverages optimization-based development to handle the complexity that automation and control systems entail and to maximize mechatronic product performance, meet reliability demands and ease overall environmental impact.

Influence of actual component characteristics on the optimal energy mix of a photovoltaic-wind-diesel hybrid system for a remote off-grid application

Hybrid energy systems are an interesting solution for the electrification of remote, off-grid users, which usually are obligated to satisfy their electricity demand by means of quite old technologies, like for example diesel generators. In the present study, a sizing strategy was developed based on a long-term energy production cost analysis, able to predict the optimum configuration of a hybrid PV-wind-diesel stand-alone system. The approach was tested on an isolated mountain chalet in Italian Alps.

Innovative Computer Aided Solidification Technology

ERGOLINES and ESTECO teamed up to elaborate this new technology for 'assisted solidification' of steel to improve further the quality of the final product. The goal is to optimize the stirrer parameters and reduce internal and surface defects, increase product homogeneity and minimize energy consumption.

Multivariate Optimization and 1-D Simulation of a High Performance Single Cylinder Engine for The ESTECO Academy Design Competition

Organized in partnership with Aprilia Racing and Gamma Technologies, the ESTECO Academy Design Competition 2016 was open to teams of undergraduate and graduate engineering students. The challenge was to improve the design of a 4 stroke single cylinder engine through multidisciplinary optimization (using modeFRONTIER) and 1-D simulation of the engine system with GT-Suite.

Model Based System Engineering: From Requirements to Performance Optimization using SysML and modeFRONTIER

Appliances are expected to perform at higher levels due to increased regulatory requirements, greater connectivity, and greater competition in the marketplace. Quick delivery to market in a predictable time is needed to win with consumers before competitors do. Large global companies have to control parts proliferation to create global leverage. These are just a few of the reasons Whirlpool Corporation is taking a model-based System Engineering approach to managing the complexity of designing appliances by using the SysML modeling language.

The Future of Modeling, Simulation and Optimization at Cummins

Cummins uses modeFRONTIER to facilitate “system-level” design optimization studies, quantifying the trade-offs across system-level performance to detailed component design.

Optimization on Fuel Injection Parameter of Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine Based on Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithms

By using the GT-power software to establish the computing model of diesel engines and employing the modeFRONTIER multiobjective genetic algorithm (MOGA), this study carried out optimal research on performance indicators of diesel engines such as BSFC, NOX, soot, HC and CO, achieved the optimal solution to combination of injection parameters, and analyzed the relationship between optimal objective and fitness.

Study on Efficiency of Solid-Liquid Separator by Vibration Analysis

CHALLENGE - The Solid-Liquid Separator is commonly used for sludge disposal in water purifying plant and draining water off from food. The solid-liquid mixture is separated into solid and liquid by using a screen with slits. Using a screen with narrower slit distance allows to separate finer objectives, although the efficiency is negatively affected by solid clogging at slits. The solution is to adopt a vibrating screen induced by a vibration exciter.

design optimization and testing of high-performance motors

This article has reported on an industrial R&D project aimed at identifying a cost-effective response to the more and more challenging high-speed motor requirements that presently come from the gas industry sector. To meet the very high efficiency, dynamic performance, and reliability standards required by cutting-edge turbomachinery drive applications, a special PM synchronous motor prototype has been developed.
