Multi-objective optimization of a single component and a two component Load cell

The main aim of this project is to carry out single objective and multi-objective design optimization of single component and two component load cells. An optimization process is carried out with the integration of modeFRONTIER and ANSYS with the aim of increasing bridge output and reducing the mass.

Multi-Disciplinary Multi-Objective Optimization of Solid Fins for Sounding Rocket

modeFRONTIER was employed to carry out the optimization of a fin on a sounding rocket. A sounding rocket, also referred to as a research rocket, is used to perform scientific experiments during its sub-orbital flight. Designing the fin results in a multi-disciplinary problem involving three main topics: aerodynamics, trajectory and structures with multiple conflicting objectives such as maximizing peak altitude, maximizing factor of safety and minimizing fin deformations.

Bioresorbable materials, consisting mainly of polymers, have as main components, lactic acid and bioengineering studies, which is the bioresorption process, i.e., the braking of polymer by hydrolysis into lactic acid and glycolic acid. These monomers are eliminated through body natural cycle called Krebs cycle. 

A brighter future for TRE solar technology

TRE (Tozzi Renewable Energy), a producer of renewable energy, was looking to improve the long-term stability of its photovoltaic Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) - widely considered the next generation solar cells - under development by TRE start-up company Daunia Solar Cell. Compared to the current generation, DSSCs are cheaper to produce, work well in low-light conditions and are suitable for most engineering applications. They are particularly well suited to architectural applications where aesthetics are important, offering design choices that were previously unavailable (i.e. color and transparency). However, the issue of unconfirmed long-term DSSC stability was standing in the way of satisfying stringent manufacturing certification standards.
