Michael Bambula

Master's candidate, University of Florida

Michael Bambula was born in Fürth, Germany and initially moved to the Bahamas and then to South Florida with his twin brother Alex and mother Karin. He completed his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Energy Systems at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. During his time there he was heavily involved in the Formula SAE team; helping to design Brakes, Drivetrain, and Powertrain systems. He eventually managed the team in the 2014 - 2015 season to 2 national competitions. Michael is currently pursuing his Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Thermal Sciences and Fluid Dynamics at the University of Florida while working in the Systems Analysis Team at Cummins Inc.

Multivariate Optimization and 1-D Simulation of a High Performance Single Cylinder Engine for The ESTECO Academy Design Competition
Academy
Ford Piquette Avenue Plant, Tue, 24/10/2017 (All day)

As part of the 2016/2017 ESTECO Academy Design Competition, Aprilia Racing and Gamma Technologies partnered with ETECO to challenge students to optimize a high-speed 250 cc 4-Stroke Naturally-Aspirated Spark-Ignited Engine. Due to the constrained engine architecture, an optimization of the Intake/Exhaust system was performed. The possible configurations for such an open-ended design problem are virtually endless. In order to efficiently achieve the “optimum” configuration in a reasonable amount of time, Gamma Technologies supplied a suite of Engine Simulation tools for the competition (GT-Power, VT-Design, etc.). This will be used to develop the 1-D engine model of the high-performance engine. ESTECO’s modeFRONTIER software was used to automate the Design Exploration Process. ModeFRONTIER incorporates seamless communication between numerous software packages and can be used to run the workflow, automate design criteria selection, and post-process results. A sub-group of final results were sent to OptimumG’s OptimumLap Lap Simulation tool for final selection.
