Sergio Butkewitsch Choze

Manager, Advanced Analytics & Optimization, Arconic

Dr. Sergio Butkewitsch Choze has over 15 years of experience in the development and application of statistical and optimization methods for the aerospace, defense and oil & gas industries.  In addition to technical leadership roles, Sergio has had significant supervisory and project management responsibilities throughout his career, including leadership of technology development projects with multi-million dollar budgets. He began his career at Arconic in 2015, where he is responsible for the development of advanced solutions in analytics and optimization, focusing on the global Smart Manufacturing initiative, and leads a team of statisticians and engineers.

He began his career in 2002 as a lecturer and research associate at Vale do Paraiba University (Brazil) and worked with Embraer as a Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) supervisor for six years. During that time, he led a large team in optimization and data analysis processes.  After a brief period as general manager for turbo machinery and advanced engineering with a mining company, Sergio  worked as an independent consultant providing specialized services to aerospace, defense and oil & gas industries in the areas of optimization, advanced mathematical methods, data analytics, systems engineering, statistics and optimization. Between 2013 and 2015, he worked at the General Electric Global Research Center with responsibilities for application of statistical methods to the design of complex systems in various industry segments.

Sergio holds a B.S., a M.Sc. and a D.Sc.  in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Uberlandia (Brazil),and has authored more than 40 publications in technical conferences and peer reviewed journals. He was awarded the Young Researcher Fellowship for Exemplary Research at the 1st MIT Conference on Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics in 2001, and has been a keynote speaker in a number of technical events, such as the 2015 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation in Sendai, Japan.
